So we need to hoik off a block today sometime before it gets too set?

I reckon so. There’s obviously on-site information that I’m missing, but the current position won’t work, I can be sure of that much.

I think it already matches the second diagram no? 4.5 in from the north?

 Yeah you’re right. Foreshortening was making me count the background blocks wrong.

I will leave my posts as testament to my foolishness

That said, I think I might be wrong.

Your course images are of blocks laid side on, rather than in the flat, so we might still be a bit long…

Oh ignore the elevation drawing - that’s just the stock “blockwork” material pattern.

It is currently 2 blocks -2 3/4’’ from the wall and the far point is hemed in buy network cable but can come back 300 mm or so

We should be able to get 1100mm

To be absolutely clear, the current situation is

And we can achieve

Correct?

If so, the second image is preffered.

No sorry at the moment its two blocks and one has 2 3/4’’ cut off it and it is tite to the wall

Got it. In which case:

Slip a half block in, and chop a half block out.

(in, out, in, out, shake it all about)

Should be pretty easy, just knock that block out, cut it in half and shift it to the other side.

EDIT: Joe, did we leave the gap specified there? I thought ours was 9-something?

The gap left was 965mm, as I recall. So put one half of the block back, on the side closest to the wall.

More specifically, you need to cut 170mm off the block, so you put a 270mm block (the uncut blocks are 440mm) back on the northern edge of the gap. This shifts the gap 270mm south and widens it by the required 170mm. Although, the door frame is then a further 50mm south than in the previous suggestion.

Yes the door was 965 mm

The 965 mm was based on 915 door plus linings plus 3mm help either side.

We didn’t have your drawing up on anything.

Modular is best: blocks cut in half for gaps either side of door, sort out discrepancy when we get to lintel. Blocks as south wall will need to all be bespoke once we hit the ellipse

Door really should move North as far as it can (without reducing the other side to less than 2 blocks)

I chose 1135 cos it’s 2.5 blocks, but tbh there are hardly any courses which span the door now, so it;s no big deal. Make the opening to fit whatever door you plan to use.

If anyone is there tonight, let’s just kick out the two blocks immediately surrounding the current opening to prevent them being a nightmare later this week that gives us the flexibility to put them back correctly.
