Make the Space - Sunday 29th November 2015

Yeah, sorry. Read “south” wherever I wrote “north” in the previous post and vice versa.

I don’t know if we have a particular door in mind. There is a spare door in the phase 2 area, and we discussed using it, but it would need to be widened slightly (and would look strange ). We were using a 965mm gap between blocks at the base of the door.

What is the minimum width for wheelchair compliance?

We seem pretty sure that we don’t want to move the doorway any closer to the wall, so is there any need to remove the block on the side closest to the wall?

Effective clear width of 800mm, So assuming 38mm panel and 15mm stops, that’s a minimum panel of 730. 965 opening will be fine and will allow a max. 890mm panel.

(I was just leaving lots of space in case we had a big door. You can always make an opening smaller with the frame )

Only reason would be aesthetic, the block to the south is a partial block and would be nicer to replace with a full block if the opening is moving north.

Full/Half blocks either side of the door will make your life much easier

From wall to door opening is 1.2m and door is 960mm i think it’s ok

I went in last night to move the block before the cement went really hard and it looks like this was a panic about nothing i think we got it right on Sunday.

I can see in the photo that there are 4 blocks laid in from the corner though? It’s the 4th block that needed kicking off?

Hello, everyone! I have been away for few days, so haven’t been able to collaborate sorry . I am free this evening and the whole day tomorrow and also Thursday and Friday during the day until 15:00H. Is that any help?

Thanks

Fair enough, sounds like there’s room to sit at a desk on the phase 1 side.

Yep, but not to work at it, or you’d be sitting in a fire escape.

…we need to be able to both sit and work at a desk at the south wall. What length of wall would be needed for that? Assuming the existing desk.

1.9m absolute minimum dimension to brick face. This allows for 900mm to sit in. 1.2m would be more comfortable (and is what I originally drew)

So as it is we can’t have a desk on south wall, and if we move door north we don’t have a meaningful space inside dusty room?

I’m just trying to get to the most usefu/least wasteful use of space.

P.s. with this many posts it’s not practical to find plans in earlier posts on my mobile, so apologies if this is all explained elsewhere

This door shouldn’t affect the dusty room at all. So long as the door is accessible, it’s fine. It won’t be in use as a day-to-day access route. It’s just for escape if the Messy Room’s on fire.

As long as we cannot replace or splice the network cables the position of the door is something we don’t have much choice about.

There’s still the option to move it 300 mm closer to the centre of the wall , but there’s still very little choice
