We’ve had some queries about how to get inducted on the above machines lately so I’m making a post here to raise awareness (and hopefully make it clear to anyone searching Discourse later on).
These machines are run on an assessment basis:
- Read the disccourse page for the machine.
- Complete the assesment quiz on that page to demonstrate you understand how that machine should be used, and the associated risks and hazards.
- Message the woodtechs on discourse asking for an assessment.
The techs will arrange a session with you.
Answers to some FAQs:
- You must have completed the basic woodshop induction to be assessed on the bigger machines.
- Techs will only approve you for the larger machines if they are happy that you can safely use the machine.
- Before asking for an assessment we strongly recommend you spend some time in the wood shop and get used to working in the space, especially if you are new to woodworking or a new member.
- If you want to get some practice on the machine before trying an assessment, review the tool page and ask a tech to help you. They’re always happy to help you build confidence with the bigger machines!
