Rocket stove (first welding project)

This was supposed to be a one day build last week but turned into a two days build thanks to some electrical gremlins.

If you can’t tie knots tie lots… Is the same true for welds?

My welds went from falling off, to awful, almost ok.

I think I experienced just about possible wrong setting through the day - I ran out of shielding gas and had to change bottles, the wire speed was too fast and not penetrating for some time, dirty material, etc etc.
I feel like I learnt a lot from it, mostly what not to do but that’s something.

Will let you know how it burns tomorrow when I have some time.

@metaltechs I think I might have busted the red angle grinder. It almost stalled while grinding them picked up speed again. I stopped because that was odd and there was a little whisp of smoke and the smell of burning plastic. I had to get home in a hurry but will be back tomorrow morning if there’s something I can do?

Practise does really help, you can see the welds getting better. Well done.

Looking forward to hearing about how well it works.

In hindsight I’d cut some more grates for air and maybe try and open up the chamber a little more. But it definitely gets hot!

Hi Hugo,

We are starting to look at our content inclusion for the Dulwich festival Maker fair we have a “Don’t be Shy! submit your Make” event happening on Friday. Would this be of any interest to you maybe and/or do you know anyone else I can reach out too?

Cheers
