Recommendations: Fabric Stores?

@textiletechs

I am an experienced seamstress that moved to London a little over a year ago now. What are the best places to buy fabric in the London area? I’m looking for places with a wide selection of not only fabrics but notions as well.

Also separate question, may we use the sewing machines without being inducted?

Best,
Emily

Hi Emily
Check out Simply Fabrics in Brixton. There are two shops, near the junction of Coldharbour Lane and Atlantic Road.
Otherwise, I tend to head to Shepherds Bush Market. There’s a bunch of shops on Goldhawk Road and in the market too. If looking in the market, check out the shops in the arches under the railway, which can be hidden from view by the market stalls.
There’s also a place in Tooting Bec called the Sewing & Craft Superstore, which has a wide range of fabrics, leathers (mostly offcuts / recycled furniture panels) and loads of other things. If you’re down that way on the first saturday of the month, there’s a sewing machine museum there that only opens 12 times a year!
Cheers
David

Good question.

It’s not clear here :

However, it appears fairly clear here that you don’t need induction for ‘non-dangerous’ machines:

You don’t need inductions for the sewing machines…if you’re confident in their use go for it!

Hey
Agreed regarding the fabric places. I am actually doing a clear out of my www.bushraburge.com studio of mostly sustainable fabrics on (also you can make me an offer !) Ebay : https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/bushraburgestudio

All the best Bushra

Cool thanks @RobertL and @Bushra_Burge I’ll check em out.

Also appreciate the clarity @Dermot
