Printer Purge

@members As a result of the directors meeting last night we buying a printer, and purging the space of existing ones, if they belong to you then please collect over the weekend or notify us ASAP.

Otherwise they will be scrapped, if you want parts similarly the time frame is this weekend.

The plotter will be retained, the toner for the big HP donated to Hackspace if they want to come get it.

New printer

A new Lexmark C748de has been ordered and paper, it is an A4, colour, duplex, network Lexmark printer it will be setup shortly, personal printing will be 10p per page on an honesty system.

Unfortunately the world is that there is no sensible way of buying toner for printers in a cost effective way, as such it’s likely when this printer runs dry we will buy another, but for now there are at least 10k pages of toner in the machine.

That is all.

Cool, I will setup the machine tonight.

Kind Regards

Confused, are we keeping the big HP, the HP Deskjet 600?

Yes, keeping the 600, junking the 5500 (with hackspace taking the toner if they want it.

Anyone who wants to strip the 5500 for parts (motors, sensors, cogs, belts!) is more than welcome.

That is a plotter so yes, excluded.

The new printer arrived a day early, and the paper is being delayed a day, typical!

It’s setup… remember 10p in the box please if it isn’t directly for Makerspace business.

Also to note that I spoke with @frasco about the HP DesignJet 600…

He fixed the first issue with the optical sensor, then another with one cartridge, but now the second cartridge doesn’t work, even after replacement and swapping over…

This is bad news, he is going to try some approaches to fix the contacts incase they are the issue like the first cartridge, however this could be the end of the printer.

He already tried gentle cleaning, next is some thing more abrasive. After that we could check the cable but thats a big job probably.

LHS have said yes to the toner. I’ll pop by today to bag it up, then they can pick it up some evening.

Old printers appear to be getting stacked up by the textiles area, I will have a rummage for the various ink jets and Dell printer a label will be applied to make it explicitly clear you are welcome to take them, or scavenge parts, they will be obliterated.

I’m up for a bit of parts scavenging.

Does the new one have scanning and photocopier?

The printer pile has been created, salvage deadline has passed, these will be disposed off as soon as possible.

How are we going to dispose of all those printers?
And is possible to strip some down? I need a power supply!

Probably going to pay for a collection or need volunteers to drive it to the dump.

Salvage is fine but make sure all the scrap parts are bagged up tidy.

We still have a hippo bag.
Does this bring us any closer to filling the one we have bought already?

I’m aware of the expense but would counter this with just getting the job done. And there were cockroaches in the pile out side when last we looked. I don’t fancy putting that in my car.

If we can get the pile out side removed plus printers plus any thing else, i would encourage this.

Seems like a quick and big win. Would leave us to concentrate on finishing the build. Trips to the dump can tie up people for a long time.

Electronic waste cannot go into land fill so no, but the hippo bag is another matter, we could also just buy a smaller one if we don’t have enough to fill it.

That said the summer clear out I intend to start when I get back from Dublin next week will presumable have a good amount of waste.

They take electric waste. Not print cartridges, monitors or laptops but a range of other things.

Could be worth asking if they take printers.

OK, so Hippo just email back and they accept printers.
As long as the ink cartridges are removed.

so if we want to add that to the hippo skip we can.

any thing else we can add in there if we want to use that?

The main issue with the HippoSkip is that we need to fill it at one hit. Otherwise it will get filled by generous ‘donations’
