Makerspace Print Your Own T-Shirts

Makerspace has done t-shirts in the past DIY style and they’ve never been amazing, they’ve usually been done with vinyl.

Screen printed shirts look better, so we’re seeking members interested over here:

However some folks discussed the idea for a print your own shirt thing.

That will require a heat press and ink suitable for textiles, a textiles screen and someone to run that workshop, please discuss below:

Posts here imported from the other thread.

Can’t we screen print these in the space?

If it’s the same as the last batch, you need a heat press to seal the pigment, which we don’t have

I thought Howard had provided one.

You could vinyl print and heat set, but not sure the situation with the heat press - last I checked it didn’t heat up.

Alternatively could burn the logo into a screen and print using white and opaque binder - very easilly.

I advocate that we utilise screen print area and screen print our own, then there is no limit to what you add to the t-shirt. It would make a great intro to screenprinting session.

It would just mean an order of the red tees usually 1-3pounds depending on order for standard wholesale options http://www.pag-leisurewear.co.uk/Anvil-Fashion-Basic-Tee . For the more eco version creating better farming conditions for the farmers and fair pay to the makers this organisation may be looking at http://www.wholesaleorganicclothing.net/mens-clothing/wholesale-organic-t-shirt.html

We could quite easily have a slms logo screen on permanent standby for tshirts etc.

Exposure box and drying box both finished, @Howard tells me heat press is working and we have plenty of plastisol ink so makerspace tshirt making could maybe be our first workshop?

If people want to buy them preprinted no one stopping them, this isn’t an either / or thing, but a good goal to get silkscreen going.

Hi Chanelle,

How about printing a sample so we can see what we’re meeting ourselves in for?

Sure I should be able to do a do a sample acetate stencil and exposed stencil before the end of the week. If someone would be so kind to post the link Toby or Tom sent a while back with the link logo dimendions and vectors.

Cheers

I’d strongly recommend keeping the logo smaller (~10cm) the old design was done very large and it wasn’t amazing in my view.

I like mine!
(to give a contrasting opinion  )
