Hi Everyone!

Make the space is on on Sunday. Lots of work to get done to clear phase 2 for the impeding works. The schedule for the build is really tight, so we really need as many hands on deck as possible. Not sure who will be down this weekend, and I’m at work on Sunday, but please come! It’ll be mega fun.

All welcome, new and old. Make The Space is a great time to come and get to know people, and lend a hand to making the space great!

From 11AM Please RSVP below!

Having seen the great job that’s been done of clearing up so far, I think you’re ready to put down formwork for the dividing wall footings. I can supply a measured drawing.

We also NEED to have a foreperson on site. With no leader, nothing useful gets done. Somebody please volunteer for this role and I will brief you.

I’m there.

@dermot / @joeatkin2 are either of you happy to be foreman on Sunday?

See you guys there.

Patrick

I am intending to be there Sunday. Joe’s away.

I can’t make this Sunday, unfortunately.

I could be there for a while earlier to go over works.

If we’re doing footings we need coarse sharp sand and cement.

The cement in the space is dead, except for the one yellow bag I dropped in.

Some shopping would be required on Saturday. I can make estimates for quantities.

There were still a few bags of ballast weren’t there?

Can get in today so no cement mixer .

Sorry probably sensabl not to do the footings this weekend.as alot of cement is needed

Forms can go in though, I’d guess?

If you screw them. Was going to leave nail gun …

Could we use the bricks as the form? we’ll still have loads left over after wall-gate is complete. Two rows of blocks with a channel in the middle which is then filled with concrete? Would be over engineered, but probably quick.

nah, we need all our blocks. they’re useful for propping up formwork though, just laid dry against the boards.

Tip runs would be good, there is all the bagged wood to chuck, and the stuff like the concrete thats dead…

We definitely need a footing there?

If so, it’s not a big amount of material. Mixable by hand easily.

Need a level base to build off yeah.

Here the footing detail for the blockwork wall. It’s simple. It goes back into phase 2 by 890mm, it’s 215mm wide, it’s aligned with the red stripe, ant it’s 245mm lower than the phase 1 floor.

I’ll try and get a hard copy to the space, but I can’t promise anything.

The timber walls will have similar blockwork underneath (for sound isolation) but we don’t need them right now. Formwork for this bit should keep you busy.

Quick note from trustees chat room:

Dermot Jones
Is there a modular/sizing/spacing reason for the wall footing?
The blocks supporting phase one are laid directly on the concrete with 10mm approx mortar bed gap.

Tom Newsom
The dusty/messy wall footing will have openings to allow air through
The height is such that we’ll lay two courses of 100mm blocks (on the flat) and arrive 7mm below the OSB, which allows for some neoprene (or similar) padding under the OSB in the doorways

I’ll be there on Sunday.

And I can foreman/site manage if one is needed? But I’m not an experienced builder, I’m assuming if Joe is there he will.

Hey guys, im away for two weeks, Im back on the 6th of Dec and totally free for a week, so happy to spend this time laying blocks, doing lining etc. Hopefully we can continue the momentum we are getting going, get the space cleared and start into phase two proper over the coming weeks.
we could have the bulk of it done by xmas if we get organised and motivated

I have left a copy on the big table. This forwork can be done and dusted on Sunday
