Magnifying work lamp for the makerspace

Ive got one of these myself. Its been very useful and reliable.
Its had a fair amount of use at home on my office workbench.
The magnification is pretty good and the light is at just the right intensity.
Its on special offer at the moment at £24.99.

Would be great to have one in the space if we had the budget available.
Maplin magnifying light.

I’ve ordered it.

Its about time we put a table aside for the soldering and assembly workbench then.
The little table by the window with the soldering iron on has been used fairly frequently but will be a bit small to take everything else.

I agree, lets get one of those desks we hacked into action, it has one of those monitor arms in the corner, maybe the mag light will poke into that rather than needing the edge clamp?

We can sit down and look at other stuff getting ordered too.

It will fit the corner hole if they havnt changed the design at all.
It comes with a heavy clamp and the lamp pushes into a hole.

Ive got those screwdrivers and a small socket set I donated to go with the workbench.
Maybe we can attach a peg board and set some tools out as well.

Pity youve already ordered.
These would be useful.

We’ve budgeted a fair sum of GLA funds for electronics equipment, so we will be ordering all sorts. @unknowndomain can you share the shopping list?

The desks have threaded holes in the corner plates, so will be easy to mount a back board. Bear in mind the wall itself will be ply so we could just attach things to that.

I wouldn’t typically buy stuff from Maplin it’s really expensive.

They have the odd bits and pieces that come up at reasonable prices like that lamp.
And there tools are generally of a reasonable quality.
But your right i generally only use them when i need something in a hurry.
But there stock isnt as comprehensive as it was and the staff dont have the knowledge anymore.

Agreed.

FYI: This is where the discussion about the bench is… I would really like to get this signed off so to speak… Lets sit down about this tomorrow.

I think there was another post you started asking for recomendations on what was to go on the bench.
I dont know if it ended up on discourse or google groups.

Maybe we should start a new wikified post and a list of contenrs of both what we have and what we would like for the bench.

We were talking about that on Slack but it got lost… Lets sit down and look at this as a group tonight

Busy evening again then.
Ill try and get down early to get some work done on the shutter.
And i have an upgrade of the rfid library to apply to the door.
Jim will need a bit more help with his steppers. I got him looking at how to use switches with arduino last week but he needs someone to give him a bit of time.
Im providing some stuff for pcb drilling.
And the usual questions/suggestions for getting people going.
I wonder how many will be along tonight.

I’ll be along. Was there a printer mod part for using Ninjaflex? And can you bring watch strap for Lucas to look at?

Already packed the watch strap. He can have it if he wants as i just printed it as a test.
I printed both ninjaflex and semiflex without modification.
You should be fine with semiflex with your printer.
Ill bring the rest of that red sampler for you to try out.
I have a modified wades body but havnt got round to fitting it yet. Ill bring it along for you to see it.

I was imagining just fitting an extra section to take up the space under the hobbed bolt, so there’s nowhere for out to start coiling up.

It used to print fine with Ninjaflex. Maybe I was just lucky.

The lamp has arrived and is fitted in the space.
