I finished my wood turning induction this week and I want to practice. To do so, I wanna buy some rectangular blanks similar to the ones we used in the induction. Can anyone help me find similar cuts of wood that would be nice to work with, and are of a good size? Where do I go for this type of stuff?
This is my first time buying wood, in the UK too, so any advice is appreciated!
There are dozens of blank suppliers, Googling “wood turning blanks” will give you a list. Wood Turning Supplies and Blanks - Turners Retreat is one people seem to like. Even eBay is ok for small blanks like pens. Some woods are easier than others to turn. Call the supplier for advice, they are usually happy to help.
@reda for L1 induction (spindle turning) we are using construction softwood 4 X 4 but i’d suggest to start using hardwood: it’s more fun and you got much better finish. In the study guide I’ve highlighted the best types of wood for beginner woodturners.
