Laser extraction cleaning - Help needed!

Hi all @laserusers,

Please can I request some volunteers to help clean the lasers extraction system out. I need to access the system to check some fan specs so thought we may as well give it a clean out whilst doing so.

2 people willing to help out would be fantastic. Whos up for getting involved?

Thank you

Sometime this weekend?

I am available on Sunday morning. What help is needed?

Happy to help if I’m available, let me know when you’re planning to do this?

Won’t be until next week at the earliest i’m away this weekend.

Work required is helping me take the extraction system down from the ceiling, then cleaning out the scrubbers and ducting and fans, and then reinstalling!

Is anyone free during the week? Preferably in the day as it requires going outside to clean the ducts out so daylight is handy

Hi Charles, I am available any day next week except Tuesday.

After the 29th of April, I could help during the day.

Here is what is involved:

Hi @charlesmein can we delay this cleaning session until after Thursday morning? I have a group of students in the space and we need to use the laser on that morning. I know the scrubbers take some time to dry and if you do the job Wednesday, they are likely not to be ready by the morning. I can tackle the job post Thursday if required?

Would also be nice to do it on a day that isn’t pouring rain :grimacing:

While you are in there, can you decide if the scrubbers should just be replaced.

As far as I know they never have been in 8+ years.. And we need to build another one for the 500, so will be ordering a bunch of scrubbers anyways…

The guide seems to be missing instructions on H&S, and a risk assessment.

The stuff we’re cleaning out is highly toxic and carcinogenic.

Oh yeah, it’s gross if somebody can write a risk assessment that would be amazing!

Jonathon your booking for your school thing isn’t until next thursday in the calendar FYI.

Happy to delay the cleaning anyway until it’s not horrible outside. Last time I cleaned out the scrubbers (wearing a respirator) I replaced around 25% of them, so id suggest we just replace all of them now, and also load up on some for the big lasers extraction also. Would also save a lot of time and energy cleaning them out (and health risks)

Does anyone know where we got them from last time? @Martyn_Thomas ?

Im still going to go down today and check over the extraction and we can plan from there.

Sorry i had the wrong thursday… :upside_down_face:

I’m not sure how loose the particles are but at work we require a tyvec suit and a HEPA vacuum cleaner for changing paper and carbon filters in our machine.
