Order placed for 3mm, 4mm and 6mm plywood today to re-stock the laser shop.
Unfortunately 5mm, 9mm and 12mm are proving difficult to find from our usual supplier and I try not to just buy odd orders from all over the place.
If anyone has specific requirements for these thicknesses then if they are out of stock then maybe try to source yourself. If you find a good supplier let me know and I may be able to also use them?
I found Selco have quite good prices. They also often have large offcuts of sheet material that they sell much cheaper. If ask the local branch, they will email sizes they have and prices. If go with them, need to set up a trade account- shouldn’t be a problem for SLMS.
Great, thanks, I’ll bear it in mind for future orders.
It gets a bit tricky if we buy loads of random sizes to maintain them in the online shop but maybe we need an alternative system which allows variable payments instead of just pre-defined products and then we just label the stuff with the price?
@Kyle Did you say something in the past about the shop maybe having a variable payment option? I can’t remember the last status on this discussion?
Do you know if they can certify that their plywood is suitable for laser cutting?
We have to be careful not to just use anything because of fumes, resins in the wood etc which can damage the laser cutter, etc?
I’m not exactly sure all of the material properties that determine this but we cannot just buy anything…
@lasertechs do we have any way to check the suitability of material supplies or is it just about asking the supplier (who may not know or simply say what we want to hear?)
I don’t know that. Their marine ply is BS1088 certified. Is there a BS standard for laser cutting? They sell ply to trade for building, not specialist laser cutting. Could perhaps get data sheets and info on resins used etc.
I’m a big fan of Hobart’s. Specially laserable materials. Useful cheap board like Greyboard, but also a huge range of acrylic, wood, card and board. https://hobarts.com/pages/materials
