The engineer suggested a suitable fire extinguisher be placed within easy reach of the operator.
Should that be added to the risk assesment?

Yes, it’s a Control Measure.
Does anyone know the maximum dimensions of material that that the laser can cut? I’m thinking width and height of the Perspex/wood whatever as opposed to thickness.
Thanks
Pete

The CAD software I’m used to using appears to output an ancient version of dxf files. I’ve found a useful converter that will batch convert any dxf or dwg files to 2013 dxf that Inkscape can read:
https://www.opendesign.com/guestfiles/TeighaFileConverter
Seems to have dealt with anything I’ve thrown at it so far, although it does seem to set the line width at 1.0 pixel rather than the hairline in the program I’m exporting from.
DXF, EPS, AI, DWG, SVG, PDF files are all suitable…
I would however avoid Autodesk files like DXF and DWG as they seem to have generally very poor support in other programs considering that they are meant to be interchange/exchange formats.
If I can figure out why Draftsight won’t print, then that will be an excellent way of handling those formats.
Will we allow cutting of acetal (Delrin)?
I can’t find any good reason why not. Seems like a very benign susbtance.
Ill add the settings to the wiki when I’ve tried it
Just testing reply by email. Ignore me please
FYI: All the laser cutter materials are wrong now the tube has been replaced.
does this mean we can trust the standard library more closely though? Cos that would be a win.
I’ve no idea how “standard” the library we have actually is.
Nor where to obtain such a thing if it exists.
Tomorrow’s session is going to have to involve some fact-finding as well as training.
Hi @tomnewsom,
Thanks for the induction the other day, i just wanted to check again, as it is not mentioned above that the cut width (be it blue or red, as per the materials database) should be .001pt or .001px?
Cheers
Tim
.001 in - I’ve edited the instructions to reflect this
(also the black = engrave, blue = score, red = cut recommended layer colours)
0.001mm
.001in was working on Thursday.
There must be a threshold above that somewhere.
Yes, there is also a minimum because if it is too small it doesn’t work either… frankly why can’t it figure out that the vector has a stroke and use that.
