Tackling the bin this morning… we got tagged?
at least they were on brand?
I have some white spraypaint at home. Quick, someone laser cut a stencil!
we’re not being good neighbors, leaving bins out like this.
i dont think our current rubbish system is working.
our waste has increased succnifcantly in the last quater and we havent really done anything to address this. it doesnt feel like we can keep a weeks worth of rubbish in the space between collections as we used to be able to.
we may need more frequent collections???
just have a look at the pile of rubbish in the garden area. there are general waste bags outside. it will encourage rats and foxes. ive had comments from 3 neighbours about this.
can we discuss this at next members meeting
The idea was we were meant to switch to Quantum Waste who would collect every day.
The bags were bigger with twice the weight limit and only about 5p more per bag.
As for the bin, aside from the graffiti isn’t the issue someone clearly failed to lock it because it’s open wand covered in rubbish?
As for the big bins like that behind it, there is a local initiative to get rid of these as they clutter the place up, thats why Quantum agreed to do daily collections.
I don’t think we’re producing more waste.
Here’s the way I see it:
-
padlock broke on wheelie bin, then loads of crap got ‘donated’ to it. So First Mile stopped emptying it.
-
rubbish got piled up in garden, but no one noticed it on bin night, so it didn’t get put out.
Let’s get it cleared this Wednesday – I’ll contact First Mile and warn them there’ll be a fair amount. After that let’s see how it goes after s few weeks.
We shouldn’t be producing much food waste, and all that should fit in the wheelie bin.
i think we need to come up with a process. and we need some way of making it crystal clear to all members how the process works. not in a dictatorial way, but a way where the system is dead simple and theres a laminated sign in the kitchen by the bin that outlines the process.
i have no idea how the collections work.
But seriously, why don’t you switch to the other company?
Is it not on Discourse? We could easily have a ring binder in the space. The process is quite straightforward, and I think it’s in the ‘how to host an open evening’ page?
it’s the plan, just we have thousands of notes invested in first mile bags…
We have a lot of First Mile bags left.
I think we’re the ones not getting it right here. The contractor is fine.
i think , we’re are producing more waste as habits have changed and there are more members in the space more of the time.
the wheelie bin appraoch doesnt work, becuase no one brings it back on thursday.
we are leaving rubbish out, bags are splittling and then that encourages people to drop littler, spray bins etc.
our rubbish solution doesnt work if we need to get the intervention of a director to call the waste company.
lets have a laminted sign in kitchen saying the process.
i think the weak link we havent crakced yet is the point where you take rubbish outside and then leave it somewhere contained ready for collection. at the moment this isnt really working.
neighbours have complained so i think we need to address it.
we’re also failing at the point of conveing what the system is clearly to the members.
i think we can crack this!
did we establish whether the new company would actually enter the estate to remove the bins? If so, we could create a marked area where our bins are, and that should make it silly easy for them to collect?
This is of course complicated by where max choses to park cars, and the ever present flooding problem.
It goes out to just inside the gate on Wednesday evening before open evening. That’s not a complicated thing.
There’s about 12 bags of rubbish/recycling to go in Wednesday. Which isn’t a massive amount really, considering the bin’s been out of action for weeks.
I’m cleaning it, bagging all the crap, and putting a new padlock on this morning.
‘Bringing the empty wheelie bin back to the space’ should be a task for the first person to arrive in a Thursday.
What needs most refining is the new wood collection. The bags are mostly split, and some have only about a kilo of rubbish in them, making it hugely expensive.
@boldaslove you are right that we need to be better neighbours.
The red paint on the bin was conceivably a ‘punishment’ for the piled high bin.
So…we need to have it clearly marked as ours, and take better care of it.
cool, nice one!
its gross work i did it last time. maybe this could be a punishment for any one found not washing up, or leaving food out on the counter (87.5% kidding)
if no one minds ill write some instructions and check them with you and get them laminated.
ditto for the wood collection process. @conomara can i have a copy of the procedure please.
Yeah, but can we avoid ‘instructions everywhere syndrome’? So a laminated instruction is great, it really clutters up the space to have the walls plastered in non-safery information. Although that’s just my personal opinion.
hey
not much time for reply, i did a general post, instructions are basic and a work in progress with the company
