Welcome to the South London Makerspace (SLMS)!
We’re delighted you’re thinking about joining our community. This guide will walk you through the process of becoming a member.
If you have not visited the Makerspace before, and would like to meet members and see what we do - we host bi-weekly Open Evenings and other events which are open to the public that are all listed in our calendar, why not come along and say hello.
If you would like to become a member, the steps are:
1. Join Our Online Forum
Your first step is to visit our Discourse forum and sign up.
Discourse is where members discuss ideas and share projects, and is the main tool we use to communicate with each other at SLMS.
Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive a private message in your Discourse inbox containing a link to our pre-membership survey.
2. Complete the Pre-Membership Survey
To access the survey simply click on the link provided in the Discourse message.
This survey is designed to gather information, about your interests and key skills which will help us better understand our membership.
Once you’ve submitted the survey please keep an eye on your email inbox (including the spam folder) as we will send you a membership invitation within a day.
3. Set Up Your Membership
The e-mail will contain a link to our website where you can create your account and set up a Direct Debit for the membership fee.
Our standard membership fee is £25. We also offer a concession rate.
If you require a concession rate please reach out to us via email (directors@southlondonmakerspace.org).
4. Confirmation of Membership
Once your first Direct Debit payment is processed (which usually takes between 1 to 2 days), your Discourse account will be updated giving you full access to the Discourse including categories and events that are exclusive to our members.
In addition, our Welcome team will send you a message filled with useful links and information, such as how to get your key to the Makerspace and how to get inducted on tools.
