This thread is awesome!!!
Guitar Building and Maintenance Group
oooh, I just wondered if we could laser cut some plectrums !! (when the laser cutter is back in use of course)
http://www.instructables.com/id/Laser-Cutter-Guitar-Picks/ I found this tutorial. Maybe others have some ideas or sources for DIY plectrums?
Old credit cards are a classic
I’ve got shedloads of these, mostly due to being a hoarder and not quite knowing how to dispose of them. How do you recon they’d do in the Lazar?
I tried making some by layering up different veneers and gluing them together. Turned out pretty well, but they’d last a bit longer if I coated them in a wipe on poly or something like that.
Yes! Yes! Yes!
And a nice way to use scraps!
Leather ones can be good too.
They give a lovely soft tone.
Hey, just dropped the guitar off. It’s in the snug at the back of the messy room. There’s no note on it, but it should be easy enough to locate. I doubt there’s many 3-stringed guitars covered in stickers knocking about the space! Enjoy.
Great thanks!
Thanks for coming along tonight, everyone! Was great to meet you all!
It was great fun, thanks for organising it! Just for fun, it’s really worth listening to the meat loaf song I mentioned, followed by the next song in the album (if you can stand it ;)) https://youtu.be/L035HzJJm3E - wasted youth, then https://youtu.be/TD3Bxhchck4 - everything louder than everything else. Just put a grin on my face for the long journey home! See you next time!
That’s gonna be something for when I get home - I don’t think I could take the judging looks I’d get on the bus for listening to Meat Loaf!
If you do want to try build a guitar, let me know and I’ll have a think about a way to do it without spending a load on hardware and wood.
Yeah, it was a good time. Made me think about some of my assumptions about guitar maintenance.
Re. out discussion about building a pedal steel guitar, see:
Now that would be a project…
I dread to think of the work involved in building one of those… Would be a fantastic project if you decide to do it, though!
I’ve finally got an almost finished plan for my next guitar. Still got a lot of wood to use up, so it’d be silly not to make another one… right?
Will be another neck-through, probably with a wenge top, and black limba body, if I can find a decent slab of the stuff.
Is there anything obvious about this design that I’ve not thought about, design- or practicality-wise? I’m not sure about the scratchplate and considering two f-holes instead. Any thoughts?
Also, we should arrange the next meeting. Next Tues?
Next Tuesday is good for me! The design looks nice I’m not in a position to comment on how good it is though! I’ll have to plan my design for next week and maybe by then I will have learnt some more!
Awesome. I’ll put a thread up on the events page and ping the others.
We should do a design session for yours - hammer out any ideas you have. I’ve got a lot of long paper that needs using!
