Can we use this as an excuse to set up a zip van account for SLMS?
Possibly… anyone got time to research this?
its 60 quid a year membership and then 10 quid an hour for the VW transporter.
Google tells me we can fit sheets of ply in diagonally in the VW, anyone know diff?
Not sure it could be set up fast enough for tonight though?
My experience has been that the VW is sized perfectly for 2.4 x 1.2 sheets as used on the continent, but the extra few cm of 8’x4’ mean you can’t quite lie them flat or close the door. Dermot might remember picking stuff up from Acre Lane timber with me and having to tie the door “closed” with string.
Same with my van. 8x4 fit in at an angle, tipped up at the cab end usually.
@conomara that’s business membership for multiple drivers?
looks like theres two options for adding multiple drivers, but in both cases looks like you pay a tenner or so to add them.
Then billing can be done either separate or on same card…its a little hard to know for sure though.
We will need to talk to them to be sure, but looks like they can do what we want for a price that is not going to kill us.
I’m sure if we haggle a bit we can weasel best concession out of them too
Okay, so not likely something we can do today.
prob could, cant imagine setting up is that big a deal?
This is a sister company to zipcar and offers access to bigger vans
ive been looking on the website and its hard to find out the business rates.
there are vans very close.
these are the prices for indiviuals:
from what i can work out they are not advertising other rates so possibly the rates are the same for business. but im guessing you just need to add extra joining fee for eeach person.
the log in form for the bunsiness account is here:
https://members.zipcar.co.uk/registration/#step
i couldnt find a help chat widget thingy on the site annoyingly.
they have offers on and autumn fee waivers. blah blha
i think a director needs to just sign up.
even if not for tonight it would be great to have access to this and a 2 or 3 members signed up to be drivers.
doesnt @lewisss have one of these accounts?
maybe he can shed some light or help out tonight?
mark, do you have a business acconunt or individual account? we’re trying to find out what the difference between the aaccounts is.
there is a business enquiry form on the website.

@tomnewsom and @lewisss have accounts, and I have a van…
If we end up just paying for a few named members to be signed up I’m not sure that’s the ‘communal van’ vision that we were looking for? And might just be best to form a relationship with a standard van hire company?
What about tonight though?
not sure there ever was a realistic communal vision, where we would would have access to a van that everyone could use. insurance and membership wouuld always be limited to a few i would presume.
i would suggest that this is a very straight forward pragmatic way of us getting very easy access to vans quickly.
and im not sure why you’re suddenly backing out.
Not backing out.
Not that useful if limited to 3 or 4 members though…
you’re right it wouldnt be useful for 3 or 4 of us to have access to a clean empty van?
This is another discussion to have at another time, possibly at the members meeting next week.
For now, the real question is how do we get a van tonight? There aren’t enough hours in today to get zip van sorted for tonight.
Hey
i got what sounds like a good potential deal from zipcar, just off phone with them
