Great stuff, thanks for getting this going - I’m still up for joining these sessions.

Same!

My current plan is to be in a few times this week to attempt to create another board and in effect create plans for each of these sessions

At the minute I’m thinking of keeping the cost of this down by making smaller boards in those sessions. Those pieces of wood I purchased to make two 450 X 300 X 50 boards came to ~£140, we also need glue and oil as well as sandpaper for the drum sander, I feel these prices are prohibitive for sessions at the makerspace so I was thinking of looking at reducing the size, let’s say 225 X 150 X 30 to reduce cost.

What does everyone think

  • I’de prefer a big board ~£80 is fine for materials for a set of 3 sessions at the makerspace
  • I’m happy with a much smaller board
  • I’de like (am an willing to offer) a 3rd option

It is also important to keep in mind that the end size of your chopping board really does rely on the quality of your glue ups. My first ever board was meant to be 50mm thick, it’s 32mm at best

I’ve voted for the bigger one, but happy to go with the flow to be honest!

The process is similar for both, just o little more complicated for bigger.

How are you getting on with Project Chopping Board?

Sorry about the deal, I’ve hit a few snags (leart some lessons) was hoping to com in tonight to sort a few things

No worries - just curious how you were getting on!

Are we still thinking about a group buy for wood and some sessions? I’d quite like to make one of these as a wedding present

I am, when do you need oh make it by?

Crashing your question!!
My eldest son has his birthday in mid-July - would there be any chance I can get one done by then? No worries if not!

@robchristopher I could help you through making one, what tools are you inducted on?

Ace!

I’ve got the general induction signed off and passed the ‘test’ for the table saw.

However, having not really used a table saw before I’d appreciate being shown a bit more - I pick stuff up better by doing! Is that something you are able to help with please?

Cheers

Rob

So I was probably going to avoid the table saw for this, current tools would be

  • thicknesser planer
  • track saw
  • big CNC
  • drum sander

Ah, OK - I’ll do some reading and see about getting signed off on those…

Thanks again!

I can help you with using them when making for board (can’t sign you off) but It’ll be easier if you’re familiar with those tools
