As we are “tooling up” for increased metal work, would it be useful to buy this ?
I’m in Newcastle for the weekend, can collect it if its still available.

Would be very handy!
Only thing is space
Lovely, but as nico said where would we put it. Really only need it for big section steel. The new bandsaw will cope wilth ally.
I had to cut some angle mild steel the other week, this tool would have taken 1/10 of the time. Also would make a perfect cut instead of by hand. I suppose if only Ali is being used then thats easier to cut by hand.
In terms of storage, I used to keep items like this on a rolling base so it could be slid out from a bench when needed.
We don’t have any benches in the metal corner where we could slide a trolley mounted mechanical hacksaw.
I wish you luck in trying to prise more space out of the other areas!
Hacksawing is good for the soul.
I know who to come to next time then when I need a hand
I have no soul!
touché
I have a cracking Evolution TCT cutoff saw that’s just about light enough to put away when not in use but breezes through mild steel. Only disadvantage is a new blade is about £80 and it’s really easy to strip the teeth off if the workplace isn’t clamped properly.
I’ve used a chop saw in the past to cut steel, yes its possible to use but I also wrecked the machine and blade by cutting too deep. Ali would be better but I still would shy away from cutting with a chop saw.
mechanical hacksaw is the safest cleanest way for sure.
I’m afraid you don’t know what you are talking about. I use this saw professionally, daily, for it’s intended purpose (cutting steel) and it’s into it’s fifth year of flawless service.
I didnt use an Evolution blade admittedly, so if they allow for a safe cutting great.
Sorry Rich I didnt mean to contradict you. I’m sure you now what you’re talking about.
I just searched for the Evolution TCT cutoff saw, looks like a good piece of kit.
is it as messy as using an abrasive cutting disc?
Not all all. Virtually no sparks, just produces chippings, most of which it catches. And none of that horrible dust either.
Sorry if I came across a bit grumpy…
No worries
sounds like a great tool!
So, there is something like this in the space somewhere - @joeatkin2 and I procured it some time ago, doesn’t have a disc at the moment though.
that said, it had an abrasive disc in it last time we used it, not sure if you could retrofit something like this http://www.evolutionpowertools.com/downloads/infographics/uk/ragevsabrasive/
I assume so.
I think under the Metal work bench in one of the cupboards.
Not normally - the abrasive disc ones usually run much faster.
