Hey, I’d like to appreciate @Martyn_Thomas for doing such a great job at inducting and supporting laserusers. The whole lasertech team is super great and am glad it works so well.
Likewise, I’ve never used the lasercutter prior to my induction with Martyn and the video he made along with a friendly run though in person (and a slice of the delicious nettle and honey cake) make the whole thing very accessible and enjoyable!
Aw thanks guys! I only do it because everyone else is awesome. I look forward to seeing what everyone makes using it
Just came down to the space after a gap of a couple months, and it’s noticeably better than the last time I was down. Everyone who’s putting in time cleaning and improving the space, thank you for your efforts!
Thank you, ive increased the hours/ days of cleaning the space and quite a few people have been putting in the extra effort to help out and the techs have been working hard to get things ship shape the building work of the new areas have picked up pace as well .
Thanks to whoever tidied up the scrap wood area in the wood shop. Before it was a mess and a safety hazard.
That would be chief wood storage officer @Destom
When I opened up this morning the clean room was nice and tidy and the kitchen area was clean and neat with no unwashed things in the sink etc. It was really nice to find it that way - thank you to those who were considerate.
More shout outs than I can give here, but noticeably for me in the areas I use:
-
@Scythian, @Kyle, @metaltechs for their awesome work acquiring, upgrading and fixing tools and organising the metals area.
-
@joeatkin2 for his great work unwiring, wiring, reunwiring and rewiring the arches (ongoing)
I wanted to send appreciation and kudos to @nhjansen for improving the space with continuous effort. For example he painted the Arch 1 entrance the other day, 3D prints things that helps the textiles area and many things more. Thanks a lot!!
Furthermore a thanks from the CNCtechs to @vladisl0th and @sdsefwseghtqfg for help with our computers, making them work better and enabling a shared folder so we don’t need to juggle (and collect) USB sticks anymore. Plus kudos to @joeatkin2 for taking the new compressor into commission which enabled us to clear out the compressor corner and sound proof the Big CNC extraction for more sanity in the woodshop.
Happy Friday champions and to all you other heroes - you know who you are. Thanks for making the space extra special and fun to hang out.
Thank you @Karin, you’re tirelessly and instantly adding people to tool control after their induction.
This is fantastic for the new users as well as us techs who are far less chased by people.
Just a random mid-week thanks to @mbg for not only inducting me on a bunch of wood shop tools, but also patiently going to extra lengths to teach me proper techniques, tool maintenance, and answering the 1000s of questions that I keep pestering him with whenever I’m in!
The metal area has come SO far! I don’t use it, but just walking through things are organised and clean with good access to work areas and minimal clutter. I don’t know who’s doing/leading this (@stefanoromano maybe?) But my hat is off to you all.
Thank you, but I did minimal work on there, just some lathe settings, is @scythian that is taking the lead on that!
The fridge stopped working today. Ni came to the rescue and identified a faulty switch which he replaced and got it going again. Meanwhile he is working away bringing various electriconic equipment in the space back to life. Thank you for that!
Throwing out an a couple of end of year appreciations…
Big thanks to Max (@mbg). Max’s input into the space are immense. He’s single handedly inducted half of south london onto some tool or other, he gives a huge amount of time to keeping the woodshop running, he some how stays out of the weeds and thinks big picture about how to improve things in the future, he’s always there to help and generous with his time, and somehow he manages to churn out increasingly well designed and built furniture (+textiles and more)
I’d also like to give a big appreciation to the @directors and in particular I want to shout out @asander1 the worlds most patient man… We’re a big community, full of very passionate people and a LOT of different priorities and projects. Supporting this community is hard work and I’m amazed by the dedication the directors put in. I think they also have to put up with a lot in some instances, and we don’t always remember how lucky we are to have these incredible volunteers. Thank you so much for your efforts!
Thank you to @TheBassman for the donation of a bench vise. This is now fitted and we are up to six positions with a proper bench vise, and aiming to fix up the final two this year.
Big shout to @VintageSteel
I have THOROUGHLY enjoyed your lesson on the lathe basic use! You surely have the patience of a saint!
Thank you thank you thank you and remember… * wisper * we can do better!
Thank you Stefano. Really good to hear. It’s always great to watch someone take to machining so well.
