Woodworking workshop cold start!

O yes

Yes we almost have two kits with the bits we have. But we might be able to scrape more stuff together to have two complete kits and only have to buy one. Stefano spoke of going to vauxhall market to pick up the chisels we were missing for next to nothing. These tools are going to be abused quite a lot so they don’t need to be shiny new ones and old ones can be refurbished, bevels ground back on etc

There is a vise on the half bench with the belt sander on it. We could move the vise to the other end away from the wall for a third spot for doing small stuff. The other big bench needs to come away from the wall a bit though if possible

Look that we are pretty much covered for the kits, anyway given the amazing sharping machine that we have I suggest that we go to vauxhall market on Sundays! LOAD AND LOADS of random tools like chisels marking gauges spokeshaves can be find for 1 pound or even less [ not joking!] they are in bad shape but are easily fixable
@barnaby_coote should we go tomorrow?

This can really only happen if the table saw moves as the plan for the doors is that the one near the table saw is locked, so this would mean people would be working in the only operable door in and out of the workshop.

We talked about this Friday night as one of the reasons for not putting a vise here or as a wider issue moving the table saw to the alternative location where the double work benches currently are.

In my view it’s already in a dubious position as it’s right on the fire exit route, but it can’t go back further, this is why the table saw should probably go here instead.

I’d like to go just because it’s fun looking about.

Yes, but don’t put it down on the blade!

I might be able to come along if its early enough in the morning. I’ll need to be back before lunchtime though. What time were you thinking ?

10? Half past nine?

I could make it for half nine I think

Please barnaby, let me know if we are going, otherwise I’ll go back to sleep!

So guys me and barnaby are just heading back from the market! We found 8 chisels one mallet one marking gauge and one steel ruler everything for 17£!
So at the moment we miss just 3 squares and some other rulers to have 3 complete kits!

Good stuff!

There were definitely 2 tri squares in the space. Both of them were mine, so if the other one turns up I should probably claim it.

I don’t know which one you mean, a wile ago we found (after 2 hours of swearing) that one square in the space was badly bent! At least a couple of degrees, and we throw it away!

The wood handled one?

Nope, was a crappy aluminium one!

For the square we saw this at the market, is amazingly good! The long version is this,

The short version is this

They are perfect with a thick blade and wooden handles!

That’s looking nice is that on the sharpener ? How much work is it ?
Might be worth flattening the backs on the belt a bit too.

On this particular one the back was perfectly flat!
Yes is on the wet well sharpener, well there are a couple of hours of work for all of them… Maybe 3 but is a mirror finish and I actually shaved my arm whit that so… IT’S SHARP!
