Woodworking project help needed!

Hi guys. I’m trying to make a fluted pedestal table leg with soft plywood and half round wood dowels. I need to cut 18mm thick plywood into perfect circles but I am not sure how to do it.

I can’t use the laser because the wood is too thick.

Can anyone assist?

Perfect circles with straight edge or profile? What diameter? How many? Router or big CNC.

Hi,

There’s a jig in the handheld router box which I’ve used to cut circles from. Just attach via a screw on the underside of the piece of wood and place a layer of wood under the piece where you’re cutting to protect the table top you’re working on.

@dannz @DWade Hi guys. Sorry for the late response, it’s been a busy weekend. I need to cut 3 circle. 1 x 43cm diameter and 2 x 40cm diameter circles. I haven’t had my woodshop induction yet so I don’t think I can use any of the equipment at this moment. Would either of you be available to help me with this project this week?

Do you have the plywood at the space? Will all three fit on one sheet? If so, and straight edge cuts, it’s easy to do on the big CNC and probably fairly quick. I may be in Thursday - if I am then should be able to do it then. Otherwise perhaps another member who’s inducted on the big CNC could help. Would you sort out sacrificial sheet at least 6mm thick and at least same dimensions - need that as this is cutting through the ply.

Hi, unfortunately I won’t be around for a couple of weeks. But will let you know when I’m back and if you still need some help I can.

Hi @dannz. I haven’t been able to get to the workshop this entire summer. I do have time today to go in this afternoon if you will be there. If not, I can ask someone else. I have all the pieces of wood cut into squares to make it easier to cut the circles and I also have a sacrificial sheet.

Yes, I’ll be in this afternoon for 3d printing. Big CNC is currently available. Let me know what time you will be in and I’ll book it.

I will get in around 3:30/4pm. I just have a few errands to run first. Is that okay?

See you then.
