Woodwork beginners project query

Hey there!
I want to start a wood project, i saw a good video on how to make a chain, out of wood, and apparently it’s a good beginners project.
I’ve done the woodwork induction, therefore i can use the hand tools and the mitre saw. However, i will need to use the table saw, which I haven’t had an induction on.
This is the youtube video I’m relying on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32_tEc8123I
I was wondering if perhaps someone with experience could give me a hand with the start of this process. I still have to get some wood aswell.

Hi Sarah,

Unfortunately the cut that guy made (the blade doesn’t go all the way through the material) isn’t allowed on our table saw without a shaw guard, which we don’t have right now but could make. As you go on your woodworking journey, youtube can be an excellent learning resource, but be aware that many content creators have abhorent safety practices, especially with table saws. Look how close that guys fingers are to the blade when he makes the table saw cut.

That said, the same result can be had using the router table or spindle moulder. I’d prefer you use the the router table first, skill-wise it’s prerequisite to the spindle moulder.

What are your woodworking goals and where are you starting from? If you want to do this project we can support you, but other projects like making a box or something like squaring up a board with a hand plane might be a more valuable learning exercise.
