Wooden Windows / Doors Repair - does anyone have a copy of the window sash bible

Need to repair a wooden door i’ve got. The paint is peeling and I’d really like to avoid paying for new windows or moving to PVC! Interested in makerspace opinion, I know there are some rot slowing products, or just jam it full of putty, or take the door off, router out the bad stuff and then glue in new wood patches… repaint etc.

Annoying i didn’t get to this before winter began to kick in.

Also looking for a copy of this book, not sure the library has it:

This might be handy, the products are top rate but expensive

You can get wood stabilising products, fillers etc but it will only be a temporary measure, 2-3 years if you are lucky., depending on how bad it is.

If it is bad you could cut out the rotten wood, tenon in replacement parts which is a ball ache as the bottom rail will have been tenoned in and unless you take the whole door apart you would have to replace it with bridle joints rather than mortice and tenon

nice, do you think this is the sort of job it might be best just paying to get done professionally?

The windows aren’t rotting but the paint is also peeling so i imagine i’ll have to scrape that off and re-finish

Not sure when I’ll be down at the space next, but I have a copy of this you’re welcome to borrow if you’re still interested?

Incredible! I’m rarely at the space too, would you be happy leaving it in the bookshelf with a note? Alternatively I’m in east London if your near I could arrange a pickup
