Tags: #<Tag:0x00007fa496c1cc20>

Hi All

The woodworking group will be meeting up again on Monday. I plan to bring along risk assessments for: cross-cut mitre saw, router, circular saw. So we can get going using some of the power tools at last. You may also be interested in this page that documents tools in the Makerspace (not yet fully complete!) Feel free to add to it: Woodworking group list of tools

Hi @sarahbarber - I’d love to join you on Monday if there’s space?

Hi Sarah, all, I’m having a very hectic time at work the next few weeks so might be off the radar for a while.
I’ll try and read the threads often.

Please excuse the silence and speak soon.

Cheers.

Oh yes please! I would love to attend Sarahbarber!!!
Is there any space?

Thank you!

Ana

Hi @timahrensbach - of course! We will ‘makerspace’ for you! Look forward to seeing you then.

Hi Gui

No problem

Let me know if you want me to stop tagging you in the weekly posts. Hopefully by the time you make it down we will have risk assessed some more tools!

Sarah

Hi Ana

Yes, I’ll see you from 7:30pm on Monday. Looking forward to it!

Sarah

Did you get the files I sent you @sarahbarber ?

Hi @RichM

Yes I did, and I replied from my phone without realizing that I was replying to a noreply address!

Here is my response:

Thanks so much, this is very kind of you. I was actually planning to email you myself, after some recommended you yesterday. I’ll take a more detailed look at these risk assessments in the next day or two.

I hear that you teach a woodworking course in a school/ college. Are you also interested in woodworking at the space? We are keen to attract people with a good amount of experience as it inspires others. We are planning on offering inductions in the use of some of our tools. It would be great if you would consider running some of these inductions which could be small and informal. Currently we do inductions for the laser cutter and anyone running the induction can charge £5 per person for their time. We could set up a similar system for power tools.

If you’re interested in woodworking I’d be keen to know which machines you want to start with so risk assessments can be prioritized, and also let us know if there are tools we don’t have that you need. Do come down on a Monday if you can make it.

Thanks

Sarah

you should be able to reply to emailed versions of Discourse posts, and there shouldn’t be noreply in the from: field. Let me see if I have something set up wrong.

Cheers Tom, I was going to mention it. When I hit reply it comes up with the person’s name, but when I hover over the email address it is noreply@southlondonmakerspace.org.

Ok, I’ve changed the setting, but we’ll have to wait for a notification email to arrive before we know if it’s worked!

EDIT: It works

Hi Sarah,

I don’t actively teach woodwork any more, but I used to and I have the H&S certificates somewhere to prove it!

I’ll try and get to a Monday meeting soon.

Cheers Rich, I was confusing you with someone else who recently joined SLMS. People were telling me about this guy that taught woodworking, and when you emailed me I assumed it must be you. Now I am logged into discourse I can see who you are  See ya soon

Count me in.

I can take away waste wood if there are helping hands around to help cut it
down with power tools to fit in my car. Will take away to recycling centre.

Its a good opportunity to start tacking that big pile of wood in the corner
and open up some floor space.

Hi Sarah,
Finally I was able to have my day off on Monday, I’m definitely caming along, even if I don’t have anything to work on, I hope I can somehow help someone in some project!

Great, Stefano - we’ll see you there on Monday.

hey guys,
just been awarded a commission and first meeting is today at 5.30, might be long one so I might not make it the space : ( …will try, might be late late evening if so.

Either way, if the waste wood by the sink is cut down to size (2.5ft lengths) I am happy to come one day and take them to the recycling centre in car boot.

Apologies, I cannot come tonight but I should be OK for next Monday.

Hello, Sarah and every one! I am new on this, a bit lost sorry. I don’t have an actual project to work on but loads of ideas and hands to help!!! Looking forward to it!
