Is anyone familiar with a good waterjet cutting service ? Is it expensive ?
Might get some 10mm aluminium cut sometime soon if anyone wants to group in an order ?

I’ve only used water jet cutting once, and I think I used Parker’s in Canterbury.
I can get you a quote for laser cutting if that helps - ping me over the dxf and I’ll upload it
great, thanks I’ll get that ready !
How accurate are the parts and how much flare do you get ? Any idea on the maximum thickness ?
I was told the water jet systems are quite clever, the head tilts a bit to totally eliminate any flaring and the parts turn out nice and square. This would be handy as I just cut some 10mm acrylic at the space. Some of the pieces I am cutting are pretty small and the skew is very noticeable.
Max thickness is 25mm I think. Not sure about accuracy or flare - it’s not something I’ve ever noticed being a problem
Wow that’s a lot. Do you have a part i could possibly measure on each side with the calipers ?
I have some 10mm steel parts at the forge, but I won’t be there until next week.
Also, the max thickness I can get an online quote for turns out to be 12mm in aluminum, which would be 6082 T6 grade. No, I don’t know what that means either
6082 T6 is the stuff i’ve been using, its supposed to be pretty good
@Jonathan didn’t you get stuff watercut at some point ?
Yes, I’ve had a fair bit cut to date… the results depend on a number of factors including media and speed of cut… I’ve had 17ish mm aluminium cut with near perfect
Cut edges and accuracy to match but it cost a lot…
6082 is the strongest of the 6000 series alloys. These are magnesium/silicon alloys that are eminently weldable and can be heat treated.
T6 is a temper code, T6 being the highest. So about 300 ish MPa UTS.
@RichM I’ve PMed you a link for the piece I’m working on, still work in progress but would be nice to get a ballpark figure at this stage to see if I’m not overblowing my budget ! Thanks !
