Wall mounted laptop shelf

Mini-project: wanted to replace my bodged together desk stand for my laptop with a VESA mount arm bolted into the wall. The arm bit was simple: these were going for a ‘how do they make them this cheap’ £11, looked the part in the photos, and didn’t disappoint when finally in hand. But neither love nor money could find a VESA mount shelf that would be near enough invisible, suspending the laptop in the air.

But I had a chunk of clear perspex from a broken coffee table (sized to the mm, as it turned out!), and it didn’t take long to draw up this…

…which then became this…

…which disappears when the laptop is there.

Few niggles: the dowels I had lying around didn’t end up fitting in the holes despite a test cut for size, I need to flip the cables to the other side, etc. but definitely worth the time and saving over a fugly bought shelf.
