Vanillabox open source laser cutter demo, Saturday 8th April

Our friends Dominic and Martin of Just Add Sharks are crowdfunding an open source laser cutter: Vanillabox

Needless to say this is a very exciting development in the maker world, and they’ve asked if we would be open to hosting a demo of the prototype at the Space this coming Saturday morning.

They’re proposing a slot from 10:30 to 12:30, and would like to publicise it so that other curious makers can come and see this democratising innovation.

I know Chris @naxxfish is running a laser induction session at 13:00

They’ll bring all the extraction/cooling needed, and will just need some table space – I imagine in the clean room.

Any objections? Please speak up soon!

Oh, and we’ll need a member with shutter access to be in attendance. Any volunteers to host?

No objections, would love to see it.

Cannot confirm I will.be there but will certainly try

Also not around sadly so please document and post if someone can make it

I had the opportunity to meet Dominic and Martin at the Maker Faire UK on Sunday!

I’m definitely available for that!

I’ll happily host as I put them in touch.

I don’t think you should feel obligated due to a click, but if you’re happy to?

I’ll give it till the end of the day and if there are no arguments against then we’ll confirm it.

I’d say it’s non-controversial/totally in the spirit of Makerspace us of the space.

Not sure what a click is but I know Dominic and I’m back from holiday by then.

Okay, we have @unknowndomain hosting for the guys on Saturday , we have no objections – so up let them know it’s on.

@lasers this might be of interest?

I will probably pop in to take a look at it

This is confirmed!

The workshop I was facilitating on Saturday got cancelled, so I’ll be there to see this epoch-heralding machine

Some outputs of Vanillabox

Acrylic with paint infil…I’m guessing created using Inkscape!

Laser cut flowers and vase.

Worth coming just to see the virtuosity of what Dominic and Martin achieve with a laser cutter.

This is tomorrow morning, as I said on Twitter: it’s £FREE, unless you succumb and put £1500 for a preorder…

10:30 to 12:30

@unknowndomain can you do some A4 posters to put on the street signs for this?

I’m heading over in a few minutes

On my way in, but traffics a bit rubbish.

Damn it! Slept through my alarm. Is it still going?
