Using the grinding wheel

Hi everyone, particulary @metaltechs! I’ve been trying to get some scratches out of a chef’s knife that I made, since hand sanding is so long, would anyone be able to show me around the grinding wheel?

I’ve hit it with 240 grit sandpaper so far, with intentions to go down to 800 grit and 1000 grit, do we have equivalents? Do I need to do a specific induction? Cheers!

There is no specific induction for using the bench grinders…. However, if you have never used one, I highly recommend getting myself, @scythian or someone with experience to give you some guidance. For knife sharpening / grinding you might also refer to @woodtechs

Thanks, I’d very much appreciate guidance since I’ve not used the grinding wheels much. At the woodshop induction I was told that sparky things are a no go in the wood area, so figured metal peeps would be a better shout!

Are either you or @scythian available at any point? Weekends or evenings are generally when I’m around the space.

im in today, no plans further yet

I’m bringing a friend along to the open evening, so might see you around!

I’m going to pop in later today - if Roman hasn’t already sorted you out already.

I might be able to, around what time you thinking of being at the space? I can bring over my project and show you what I’m dealing with

Gah! Sorry I missed your message. So very busy. Heads up I will be there tomorrow until 4pm if that’s of any help…

Sorry I can only be at the space from about 7pm on weekdays! Weekends tend to be more flexible, but such is the life of a 9-5 lol

No worries. I’m sure it will happen. I’m sometimes in over the weekend.
