Tufted dolphin rug

I finished my first tufted rug last night. Overall it went quite smoothly and was fairly easy to pick up.

Took me about 4 hours of prep and tufting (including dinner and the time to figure out how the gun works), and maybe 30 minutes of finishing time, to glue and trim the yarns. The rug is quite small though, just 30x30cm.

I think the yarn I used was too thick, I only ever used a single thread at a time (contrary to what I’ve read in a bunch of places), and even had to space the strokes by a couple of mm or the rug would be far too dense.

One thing I struggled with at the beginning was the yarn falling out of the gun consistently after a few strokes. I solved that by ensuring I had virtually no tension in the yarn by unrolling the spool a bit and letting the incoming yarn float freely. Even using cones or pulling from the centre of the ball was too much tension.

Looks excellent ! I tried recently and had some difficulty with thread being cut off after a few strokes each time, I will try what you suggest of spooling more out next time!

We founds that double threading it- (2 spools of the same colour threaded through at the same time) made this issue much better

Hi, :star_struck: Great work, looking forward to your next wonderful project. Keep well . Brian D=
