Trotec speedy rotary attachment

Hi @lasertechs I saw on the speedy forum page that there’s a rotary attachment for the laser cutter. I was hoping to etch my name into a water bottle (powder coated steel - ocean bottle) , and etch labels into some glass bottles. Is that something we can do with the laser?

Hey,

Yes there is a rotary attachment.

However as a general rule we dont allow metals inside our lasers at SLMS. Theres a very small chance that metallic surfces can reflect the beam and cause damage inside the laser and tube. Which could be a costly replacement and repair job.

So please don’t attempt to etch on your steel bottle, Sorry I know its frustrating but its just not worth the risk with a shared piece of machinery with such high user traffic.

Another option you could explore is using the Eufy printer (which can do rotary) to print on your bottle.

You could also look acid etching your desired design into the bottle by making a mask using the vinyl cutter. (in textiles room)

Thanks

The vinyl cutter is very temperamental. I need to try to work out how to get it to behave again soon so if that is a reasonable replacement send me a message and I can try to help.

Thanks for the info, that’s unfortunate but I understand. Is it possible to etch glass, or does that face issues too?

Hi.

The laser tool page provides details of suitable materials and the rotary attachment.
Glass is on the permitted list.

I have seen a lot of Pint glasses being etched on our printer

Glass works great, but I highly recommend using the paper trick to get a frosted, not splintery finish:
