Transition

@members As everyone knows, I am stepping down as a director of Makerspace as of Friday:

tl;dr: My and by virtue of this @dermot won’t be able to buy stuff any more, only @tomnewsom will, so ask them. I won’t have access to the private Directors channels this will probably see more conversations in public which is good. I still look after systems and have quite a bit of access for that stuff.

There are a number of things I am looking after or not after this time.

  • Debit Card holder
My card will be cancelled leaving only @tomnewsom with a card, he will be taking on a treasurer type role for now, this could become an @role in future.

  • Directors Slack + Telegram
This is where a lot of the back channel conversation the directors have had in the past has taken place, some of this is private so I won’t be in that any more, but the positive of this is the conversations that shouldn’t be in there will take place in Discourse and Members Telegram so that should be more public.

  • Directors Email
This is again could be private messages from members about private matters so I can’t be on that, but we are planning to look at an email for technical positions and maybe one for enquiries, it seems silly right now that we have enquiries go to the directors when they could be better handled in other ways, maybe we post them to a discourse channel or a help desk ticket system so members can help with these emails in a managed way.

  • Discourse Admin
I’ll stay a moderator, but won’t have full access, so people should bare in mind that I can’t see inside any of those private channels any more, this is one of the reasons for making a public and private category as it became clear there were too many things behind closed doors that we all needed.

  • Mailchimp
I don’t need access to this unless people make changes to the HTML code for the main site.

I’ll still be @systems and responsible for the following:

  • Membership System and GoCardless
This means I will still be able to view and access the members list and their personal details as I need to in order to manage the system.

  • CCTV
Similarly as a person looking after this system I will need access still.

  • Network infrastructure, VPN (when it works), and Andrews & Arnold contact person
To look after these areas would be impossible without this

  • Access control & tool control
I am currently one of two people with master key access, it’s up for conversation if I give this back or not, as I am generally more able to get to the space and it doesn’t afford me any benefit, but it does mean I remain the person to contact when you can’t lock up properly.

  • Social media: Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/Flickr
I would like to keep access, there are a broad set of members who look after this inside and out of the events and marketing roles.

  • Web services: Digital Ocean, Bitfolk, Hover, WP Engine, Mapbox, Github
To look after these sites would be impossible without this.
