I’m working on some folding knife parts and need them machined. I can supply the titanium and I already have 3D CAD files ready in STEP format , so it should be straightforward from the machining side.
If anyone here has access to a suitable CNC machine or knows a local machinist/shop that might be open to a small job, I’d love to hear from you.
Unfortunately, we don’t have any CNC machines that can work on titanium.
We have a manual vertical mill that potentially can, although we never tried.
If you decide to get inducted and give it a try, that would be a very interesting project (although I would suggest you buy your own cutters, as we don’t have anything suitable at present)
Hey Stefano. Thanks for your reply. Yes I am aware the machine probably cant handle Titanium. I have asked if there is maybe a contact know outside of the Makerspace, I could contact and ask to do the job for me.
SMEE might have the equipment (or someone who can take the job). They have a lot of mills and lathes in their basement.
Membership is £58 per year, I went to visit and spoke to them about joining to do some casting a couple of months ago. They were very accomodating. They’re open Sundays around the early afternoon, not far from the Makerspace.
Hi Jack. this could be promising and a great direction. Which one are they exactly, near the Makerspace. I have had a look at the website and there are a lot of clubs. I will then try to pop down this Sunday to chat to someone.
Hi Brian. Thanks for the offer. I am just waiting on a work flight booking. Then I will know if I am free Sunday afternoon for a bit. I will let you know soonest.
