Textile Room Clearance and Refurbishment

Dear all,

As the one-month grace period has now ended and due to the recent issues with the BB, I am beginning the process of clearing out and refurbishing the textile area. I will be posting images of items I’m unsure about discarding — please respond by tomorrow latest they will be placed in the lost and found before disposing giving you enough time to reclaim.

All members with projects in the textile room have been contacted, and their projects have been moved to the snug with their approval.

If you have an ongoing project that will take more than a few days to complete, it must be placed neatly in a box in the snug (please ask for a box and one will be allocated to you).

Projects that can be completed within two days may remain in the textile room, but they must be clearly tagged with your name and date. Please note that any projects left in the textile room for more than two consecutive days will be moved to the snug. Any unlabelled items left behind will be placed in box of lost and found by the wash room.

Furthermore, I have donated a red broom and a black bin for use in the textile room. Please ensure the bin always has a liner, and no food waste is disposed of in it. The textile area is not a dining space and must remain clean and free from crumbs, oil, and grease at all times.

Kind Regards,

Sophia.

I have a lot of my projects (my bags) in the space and am out of london until 22nd Nov. What would be the best way to retain my materials?

I didn’t have my name on my things

I had a green drawstring bag (I think it had Kapten on the side) with my name tagged in the textiles room - I haven’t been contacted about moving to the snug but wanted to check if it had been removed due to the bedbug situation? I am unfortunately out of London until 2nd Dec so can’t make it in to collect but if it hasn’t been thrown please could it be kept?

Seems like this may be a good time to remind @members of the Storage rules:

https://discourse.southlondonmakerspace.org/t/storage/59

TLDR:

  • Max 2 projects per member in storage at any one time.
  • All stored items must have a physical tag with your name and details.
  • Small projects: can stay up to 4 weeks (ask for permission if longer).
  • Large projects: need prior approval before storing.
  • Woodshop projects: maximum 2 weeks storage; cleanups are frequent.
  • Storage only in designated areas (Snug shelves or specific workshop zones).
  • Unapproved or abandoned items will be removed.

We all get it that life happens and sometimes people can’t make it to the Space, if this is the case you should reach out to the techs or a friend or just on Discourse to help make sure your project does not get removed.
