I’m hoping to get inducted on some of the machinery in the wood shop, I’d be really grateful if someone had some free time. I’ve designed the stool in the image (it will be woven with rush in the empty central areas) and have some boards of Elm I want to process.
I became a member in 2024 and took the basic woodshop induction, realised I was too much a of a rookie, so went away to learn furniture making in a workshop for some time. I’m hoping this project will be a good way to get familiar with the machines in the makerspace.
I would plan to use the:
Bandsaw
Planer thicknesser
Table saw
Festool Domino
I have been trained on all of the above (though different machines from those in the makerspace), but for the table saw I have less experience (I have never changed the blade myself).
At some point the router and router table would be useful to be inducted on, although not for this project.
I’ve gone through all of the documentation, taken the assessments and will be in the space later today looking over the machines. I’m around all week/hopefully whenever works for you.

I can assess you on the bandsaw and planer thicknesser to begin with. Does Thursday evening, around 7pm work for you?
Unfortunately the domino jointer is out of service and was sent to festool for repair last week. I don’t think we have an ETA for it yet. I can let you know when it is back and we can arrange a time.
There’s been some shuffle in the woodtech team recently. @mbg who use most of the assessments became director and I have replaced him as a woodtech. I am not yet super comfortable assessing people on all the tools, in particular the table saw. I’m trying to coordinate with the other woodtechs on how we can move forward but until then it might take some time until you can be assessed on it.
Thursday at 7pm would be great, very kind of you to offer!

I understand things have changed a bit with the shuffle, for now the planer thicknesser and band saw will get the job done and as you say, hopefully I can get inducted on the table saw when possible.
I’ve just remembered there’s a basic induction going on this evening. I don’t want to be doing an assessment at the same time, especially not the planer thicknesser (it is deafening).
Are you okay to meet at 8.15pm instead? The induction should be done by then.
