Spray painting and aerosols

Hi, was wondering if we had a space where using spray paint or similar would be okay?

What are the rules of using the outside of the space for our projects?

And then finally, if there isn’t a space, have we thought about a small tent or something similar where small jobs could be done as to not disturb others.

Cheers

The splash booth in the messy room has been designed for this. Probably won’t officially be ready for use until begining of Jan. Your welcome to come down and check it out to see if it meets your needs.

Hey Rob, currently there isn’t a safe space to spray paint/similar for you or other members inside or outside Maker Space. If you’re talking about aerosol or similar?

Thanks for asking cus you obviously know it’s toxic horrible even outdoors (have done this lots on the quiet at jobs but it’s not good to do so, lungs and eyes are never happy but that was my choice). It’s toxic harmful, that’s why the labels on the products say so. MakerSpace is professionally set up to protect all it’s members.

What would you like to do?

It’s best to ask the Directors @directors to know how to proceed.

All proposals are important and it’s good to know what members need to make their projects.

Me, I just spray paint things on my balcony now!

The splash booth has been designed for Silk Screen Printing chemicals as far as I know. Is there an extraction duct there that’s strong enough to take aerosol/spray paint toxins away? Even if there is, it’s a small area where these toxins will build up quickly. All chemicals are strong but aerosol/spray paints are highly toxic, that’s why most users wear a proper chemical mask.

Most of the graffiti artists do if this is their regular art.

Thanks Jackie, I was just going by what I was told. But thanks for updating.

Cool. Rob is asking about spray paints and aerosols, so it’s good to know if Maker Space can provide this. It’s a fun fast thing to do, have converted a couple of my tables by spraying them on my balcony and then closing the door quickly!

What needs to be finished? I thought it is up and running?

It needs storage units built next to bench
overflow sensor to be fitted to sink
minor leak mended

I believe Howard is sorting this. But I’m sure he would welcome some help.

The spray booth has the extraction in it and should be powerful enough to avoid dangerous level of toxin build up, but a proper chemical mask with airtight seal around mouth-nose has to be mandatory!!
They are around 15 quids so not too expensive, if anyone is planning a project that involves aerosol, he should budget in one of those!

Is there paint filter cloth placed in the extraction?

Here is a chart to choose the right filters.
(The mask body itself is a one-off buy)
Please ignore the part number because this chart is specific for a brand, but all the other info should be according to H&S standard!

I don’t know at the moment, but it has been planned!
