Speaker repair, and wondering how it got damaged

I took my speaker back from the space, and one driver is now seriously distorting, making the speaker unusable.

Any ideas if this is repairable?

I guess we all know that lending gear to the space has its risks, but it would also be handy for me to know what caused the fault to develop — if anyone knows.

Could it have been driven to hard? I.e. Too loud?

Depends of the damage and the speakers, if the cone is damaged or only the sponge is…
