Anyone got any better ideas for how to spend the Solstice weekend than making sundials and pootling around the stone circle and Summer Fayre in Hilly Fields? If, like Howard, you don’t, this might be for you.
Here’s a pic of the lovely Stone Circle with a sundial in the middle near to the fine cafe, Pistachios, towards the top of Hilly Fields. On Saturday, there’s the Hilly Fields Fayre, where I’ll be running my Curiosity Workshops stall, and on Sunday - with the Solstice itself at 9.24am - I’ll be running some workshops through the day to demonstrate how the Sundial in the Stone Circle actually works, with help of versions of these replicas I’ve made.
Howard seems open to bringing an instrument - less open to wearing a long pointed hat with a droop. If any others fancy joining at any time, with or without an instrument and/or outfit, would be lovely to see some friendly faces. Youngsters and even those from outer Makerspace welcomed.
Saturday’s Fayre runs 12-5pm, and I’ll be in the Stone Circle on Sunday from 9am. Here’s a little poster - shout out to @Clive for the artwork.
Thanks to those who came down - it was a very pleasant surprise to see 6 makers + accompaniments through the weekend. The main day was Sunday, and after a decent workshop in the morning, Clive, Howard and I enjoyed largely hanging back under the trees (or up the trees, in Clive’s case)… snacking, listening to music (or playing, in Howard’s case), and occasionally getting involved as people wandered by to play around with workshop bits and bobs.
Zero sundials sold, a handful of mistakes made, but ye olde glimmer of potential. Especially in the eyes of the Brockley Society, who built the Stone Circle + Sundial for the Millenium and were very excited to see the replicas and workshops, and to hear about the Makerspace. I was also encouraged to see if there was a way to bring the workshop to @emf - not sure if anyone in this group has any thoughts, considering the fact that even the family-friendly workshops seem to have closed for applications.
Thanks again, and to those that couldn’t make it this time, there’s always the Winter Solstice to look forward to
