Software!

Hello! I’m a new person (signed up on the way back from an open evening last week!), and I’ve got myself on a number of wait lists for inductions.

Whilst I gradually make my way closer to the top of those lists, I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for software worth learning for the CNC tools? I already use Adobe Illustrator on a day-to-day basis for my job, so I think I should hopefully be fairly well covered for creation of 2D vectors, but is there any proprietary software that could be worth getting to grips with ahead of that? What do people tend to use for 3D modelling?

Thanks!

Welcome!

Start with VCarve we have a Makerspace license… and work your way up to Fusion 360, free for personal use…

Vetric, who do vCarve, have video tutorials on their website. Also check YouTube. Start with the SLMS induction video. For CAD, TinkerCad is good simple start (also free). For 3d modelling of organic forms, Meshmixer is good (Fusion, TinkerCad and Meshmixer all by AutoDesk).
