Silver plating?

Has anyone done, or had done, or knows someone who would be able to silver plate some jewelry? I have a ring which I’d like to have done but don’t know where to start. I could probably send it somewhere but it’s always cool to be involved a bit more than that.

Hi, This would involve electroplating ( high voltage )and industrial acids . You can talk to a few people down at the silver vaults in ST Pauls area . Keep well . Brian D=

Not strictly silver plating but more like silver un-plating; I have a load of photographic fix from my shooting that I want to try and get the silver out of. If you find anyone who knows about electrolysis maybe I can join you for some silver experiments.

Electroplating is, as far as I’m aware a very low voltage process though, in the range of a few volts. Depends a lot on the metal you’re trying to cover though and it can need a plating of I think copper or nickel before you can get silver to deposit well but it’s been too long since I was reading up on the chemistry.

This doesn’t need to involve electroplating. You can also do purely chemical silver plating, as is done on old brass clock dials. It’s a silver paste that you literally just rub on with your fingers. If you think this might work for your jewellery, I’d be quite keen to try it out with you. I’ve got a “secret recipe” to make the plating solution youself so you don’t need to buy the expensive commercial stuff and I’d be keen to try to make some.
