So, I may have finally put too much stuff on my bike. Packing it up for a family holiday I rode to paddington, and when putting the kickstand out in the station it slid and the kickstand bent right off. When I was able to get a look at it, it appears the mount plate on the actual frame is the part that gave, and the kickstand itself looks fine. Sheer is just in front of the rear drop outs.
Can hear all the suggestions going round in my head.
However, that looks like aluminium… so welding that at the space is out atm… (no AC TIG machine yet - and no we don’t have the tooling for aluminium MiG welding)
My best (and easiest) suggestions are
Drill tap and bolt a new bit on (potentially rivet it)
Unfortunately, the kickstand is pretty critical to food delivery operations (I gotta park outside shops and houses). Clamp is the backup option. I’ve found a local car garage with an AC TIG welder and am going to try to work with them. @unknowndomain Thanks, I’ll have a look at that option.
Yeah. It’s a surprisingly complex issue. Depending on the alloy, welding aluminum frames that have been heat treated anneals the area around the weld, making the metal within that zone softer and more prone to stress failure. That said, people will tell you they have welded their aluminum frame and never had an issue.
This is why my suggestions did not include welding the kick stand back on. A kick stand mount takes a bit of a beating - evidenced by the fact that it failed in the first place.
Ultimately, if you get it welded and it lasts, the job’s a good’un… If not you back where you are now. Luck may or may not be on your side…

Given stresses to the frame already, I think risking the strength loss from welding doesn’t seem worth it.
A bottom mounted stand is likely the way to go, @charlesmein I don’t have a bolt hole for that to fit into, but can it work with a plate, in the small triangle behind the bottom bracket, similar to the one @unknowndomain showed?
Yeah it has a plate that sandiwches the stand between the chain stays. Tbf the omnium one might have a proprietary mount but most have a standard plate sandwich situation going on!
Just as a general PSA avoid standards that clamp to the chain stay like this. It will cause damage and stress to the chain stay and eventually crack it
