Sharpening for hand tool project

Hi @woodtechs @woodlathetechs ,

I am hoping you could help - I use my own hand tools and like to keep them very sharp! I bring in my own stones. I would love to be able to grind the 25 degree bevel on my plane blades on the tormek in the workshop however notice the stone generally needs resurfacing after the previous user. I haven’t used this machine as I am not inducted but have used one a lot in another workshop. I wondered if anyone would be able to give an induction so that I might be able to use it? I know that resurfacing would normally be left to techs but hopefully we could discuss it.

Many thanks,

Hannah

Hi @Hannah.cook, here’s the self-assessment process for using the Tormek:

Regarding truing the wheel, this is done regularly by the @woodlathetechs, but I’m open to other members volunteering to help keep the Tormek in good shape.

Hi Hannah - Dario is the guy to talk to for the Tormek! We also have a bench grinder with a very fine wheel on it.
