@directors
With huge annoyance I found out this morning that the current builders are behaving like settlers and they are now taking over the whole area. This means we are not allowed to park at the Makerspace anymore because they occupied the place with their cars and vans, with no parking permits, telling our parking permit is invalidated.
I understand they are there to do a job, but they have to understand we are all doing some work too and cannot stop all the arch businesses because they need a hood to lay their cuppa when waiting for next instructions of thing and expropriations to do.
I am now bringing heavy stuff in to work on for extended periods of time and cannot park somewhere else as it’s impossible to bring that stuff to the makerpsace from wherever I am parking, and back, as I’ve never left my projects at the MS due to the nature of my work. Also, in that case I am forced to stop working beacuse the noon-to-2pm restriction in the closer streets.
I regrettably have to stop all my current projects (4 doors and a studio mixing desk) until I will have access to parking space again.
If this period will extend I will have to suspend my membership until better times.
Can we please let all the members that there is no parking at all in the makerspace, so people can avoid to travel distances to the Makerspace, please?
If we do not have any parking, could we please take out the two parking permits in the space booking and write a message that there is no parking at the moment. @system@directors
@directors Hey just using this thread to keep parking separate.
Forgive me if this is a bit naive but is having 2 parking spaces/permits something we pay Arch Co to provide for us?
If so is there a case that they need to provide us with an alternative.
For example if they were to use their forklift to pile these giant stones outside on top of each other, and some better bin layout we’d get 2 spaces back no problem without blocking their access
I have called the phone number listed on our parking permits. After being on hold for 90 minutes (I did other stuff while I waited) I got through to someone called Alex.
I explained the situation, he looked up our file and confirmed with 100% certainty that our permits are not invalid. Archo Co has not reached out to them, to cancel/invalidate ours, and if they did the parking permit team would have to give us written notice and warnings before enforcement comes into effect.
I’ve attached his email which confirms this in writing.
Obviously there are skips and forklifts moving around our entranceway throughout the day,
I think this could help us come to some kind of agreement, in which the builders move the concrete blocks to allow us to park adjacent to the arch and still give them access. I appreciate this doesn’t affect many members of the arch but I know it affects some.
If I may, I’d just like to offer a small word of caution on this.
I completely understand and agree with much of what’s being said here — it does seem like the builders are being difficult, and the situation with Arch Co isn’t straightforward either. That said, the wider picture is likely quite complex, with multiple layers of communication (past and present), and possibly verbal agreements that we’re not fully aware of.
With that in mind, it might be best to proceed carefully and double-check with the directors before taking a firm stance or acting on anything.
I know this is frustrating for everyone, and it’s definitely grinding a few gears. However, I think it’s really important that communication is kept consistent — ideally flowing through one person or a clearly defined group. In this case, the directors are probably the best point of contact.
I’m not trying to hold anything up — just sharing my two pennies in the hope it helps keep things smooth and aligned.
