Screenprinting some public-domain visual puns onto tea towels

Work in progress :construction: I’ve made a good screen, although I thought I hadn’t at first because the ink didn’t want to come through the outline font at the top. Thanks to @petermakesprints for the induction, @KPJ for opening the space today and being unofficial printing expert for me and my fellow new inductee @electriclouisa .

Now I need to improve my tea-towel printing technique (photo below) as I’ve a bit of double-vision going on from a misprint earlier. :glasses: I washed out the screen and hope to try again tomorrow.

An email from the Internet Archive put me on to this amazing book of puns…

Moss or Albatross?
Whether botanist or birdwatcher (or neither for that matter), you may enjoy this book of poems from 1907. In How to tell the birds from the flowers: A manual of flornithology for beginners , Robert Williams Wood muses on how different bird species differ from plants with similar names. Comparisons include the quail and kale, pecans and toucans and much more. (Be sure to read the author’s apology at the end of the book for a bonus rhyme!)

Acetate/Transparency/OHP Film technique

  1. https://www.ryman.co.uk/ryman-inkjet-or-write-on-ohp-film-a4-10-sheets
  2. Printed 2 copies on home inkjet printer using “Photo paper” and “Best” quality
  3. Stacked and aligned both copies for extra light-blocking power using sellotape and a blank sheet of acetate at the space

It was good to go back today - think I used a screen with too fine a mesh, but will get there!
Tx to @petermakesprints for great induction last week, and @KPJ for being so kind in helping us out today.
@martin.burch tx for posting the info and I know the tea towels will work out well, you’re already a long way there!

Good to see a clean print, done competently, soon after induction, exactly what we hope for and love to see!
