I’ve started a project that involves re-purposing glass bottles and I’d love to make it more of an efficient process. Using a G2 bottle cutter and sand paper at the moment, not the one!
I would need to use a fast rpm wet tile cutter, and a bench grinder/polisher to do so and just wondered if the space had these tools or perhaps looking to get them in?
nice one @SamB@tomnewsom@joeatkin2 Yes, I bought a handheld tile cutter and ended up building a little jig out of lego last night to score the bottle, then used a boiling water and ice combination to crack it, but having only tried a couple of attempts they’re not perfect. I only need to make 4 cut bottles, but if you’ve got a decent cutting tool, I’d love to give it a whirl!
I will never get the 300 hours that I’ve spent on YouTube looking at ways of doing this, lol. The G2 Bottle Cutter is a great little tool, but the warm to cold water method seems to be where the problem starts and defections in the glass appear. More than happy to bring it along for you to use @KarlS (If I become a full paying member obviously)
This lady seems to have the best method/results: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSvCIucbyp4 - I previously bought a small wet tile cutter but the blade wasn’t big or fast enough to make a clean cut.
hey @SamB, cool really useful, thanks for pointing it out. Yeah I need a bit more practice (and drinking some more wine for wine bottles! 8) ). Let me know if you join, I’m intrigued to try out the G2 cutter. The wet tile cutter looks good too, though I am cutting the very bottom of the base off and it might cause difficulties when the blade hits the dimple in the base. As I’m going to recreate a 3d printed end cap, I think I’ve got a bit of license with the edge, but yeah man, this is fragile work, I had no idea!
