Says “up to 20 users per lock” here unfortunately - might be easier overall to slightly modify the existing tool control then we can have it all using the same infrastructure, rather than supporting a third party product

I agree, as I think that a third party unit will mean another IT system where to log in, load info and edit info..

I hear you, but the the current Tool Control infrastructure needs a lot of work to bring it up to a stable system you’d want to rely on, and I’m working with the directors to explore replacing tool control on the door and shutters so we don’t keep getting issues with it for this exact reason.

No idea if that will actually happen, but if it does then we will have another system for doors and shutters anyway.

I’m happy to commit to building the lockers themselves, based on timeframe for the new CNC desk I’d say it’s about a 4 day job and perhaps £150 in materials.

Sounds like the tool control element is a bit trickier so that’ll be the limiting factor I guess, I’ve done a little bit of firmware programming in the past so I can start having a look at it - tough to say timescale wise

I think theres a question about whether it’s managing access based on inductions, or just recording who took what.

The key system seems like a good idea.. but how do we stop people walking off with the keys? Tools disappear in pockets all the time, and a simple key is quite likely to (purely accidentally) walk out of the space right when you need to use that tool, and that member is away for 3 months.

Couple of ideas:

  • The equipment locks could also bite the keys
  • Oversized keyfobs that are too large to put in your pocket

Based on overlapping ideas at work.
Plan for a handful of keys accidentally going home with people on a semi regular basis.

Diester returned the call, 25 key system would be ~£10k installed, but it becomes more cost effective for larger cabinets.

I guess it goes without saying thats out of our price range.

I can also tell you from my own experience at work that a locker system like this from Lapsafe will be about £36k:

There are knock offs of these on Aliexpress for about £2-3k, not that we want a parcel locker, but just saying.

When I investigated building something like this before,
