Possible course: LED projects

I’m exploring running a course on creating LED lighting projects using the WLED software running on an ESP32 board.

This is a logical extension of the Absolute Beginners Intro to Electronics (ABIE), and will use the kit and knowledge obtained on that course.

If you haven’t done the ABIE course, but have the basic knowledge, you can do the LED course as a stand-alone.

The plan is:

  1. A few hours to a half-day (still firming up the curriculum)
  2. Bring your ABIE kit, or buy one on the day (£10)
  3. We’ll provide the rest of the basic LED kit on the day (approx £10)
  4. The course fee is a donation (pay what you wish)

Course outline:

  • WLED features and capabilities - what projects are possible
  • Wiring up an LED project (power supply, microcontroller, LED strip, buttons and sensors)
  • Using WLED

Please indicate your interest, goals etc and I’ll pull the course together and advertise it!

Hi Brendon!

Very interested in this, I’m in the process of designing interior lighting projects and would love to have a good overview of LEDs
Would be very interested in creating different effects e.g. chasing effect

This sounds great - although I’d say for those who have done the ABIE, a half-day might be overkill - WLED is a bit simpler (at least in my experience of it) than a lot of the stuff covered in the ABIE, although I’d love to take a look at the curriculum, as it will probably show I’m using it wrong!

Hi Brendon, I’d be very keen on this! I’m hoping to add some lighting effects into an art project, and this would be an ideal step towards that.

Update:
Thanks for the expressions of interest.
I’m going ahead with the course.
I have completed the draft course outline.
I’ve ordered 1 set of kit so that I can start testing the practical activities.
I’ll probably run the course some time in September.

I wouldn’t mind doing this too. I’m not exactly an electronics beginner, but an introduction to WLED would be useful.
