Who’s up for visiting a working sawmill?

It’s a good way to learn how timber boards are cut and seasoned and learn about different timbers. Good sawmills are accustomed to woodworkers visiting to pick out the trees they want milled and how!

This mill is 1.5hr from the the space, I’m happy to drive. There may be others nearer.

If you’re interested just add your name on the wiki below…winter is the time to go as that is when the UK grown trees are in their dormant phase, and driest, and so cut and milled:

Cool! This particular sawmill is Mon-Fri…if folks have a moment could you also have a search and share here any other sawmills that are reachable from the south of London by car.

I’m happy to make the contact and organise the visit.

Hi guys we have three for the 7th…any others?

Its about a 2hr drive down, suggest we leave after the rush hour traffic? What do you think? Happy to drive. I’m a slow driver!

We can take lacked lunch or do a country pub lunch near the mill.

Sorry to be crap and annoying (or more so than usual) but I messed up dates and have stuff on 7th which I can’t change, so will probably have to bail on this one.

I’m happy to drive, Friday’s are my preferred days, if I can leave my dog with anyone’s friends or families then I can also do Mon-Thu.

Cool! My mistake meant Wed Jan 10th, I’ll put in the diary anyway and let the sawmill know, guessing you make 10th too!

  2. my work is now frequently on 1-2 days’ notice, so if you have any seats left day before and I’m free I might be able to join you.

Yep I can only do 10th Jan as that should be my rest day that week.
