[Pledge drive] 10 Tonne Hydraulic Press by SGS - £189

Good evening all,

Following on from another thread about hydraulic press, opening this new thread for a member’s pledge drive!
Instead of acquiring the most basic press available, the discussion moved towards buying a more capable and compact solution and set on the one by SGS which is 37% off these days, at £190! It comes with a pressure gauge which might be interesting for some projects.

Would members be interested in crowdfunding this new tool to use in the metal workshop? And any chance we get some form of match by the space? :slight_smile:

Pledgers:
Myself: £80
@asander1: £40
@metaltechs : ?
@stefanoromano £30
@Kyle £20

Thanks!

While we’re at it, we have existing (small, 20 ton) hydraulic press (this one) being looked into.
Also we might have a source for a bigger press, but no promises here.
They’re frequent on eBay for reasonable prices as well.
Consensus from metaltechs is we want to have a nice one, reason being it is easy to damage press with itself.

Added my pledge!

I have this exact SGS model at home, it’s great for small-medium jobs, but large car wishbones won’t fit into the frame, for those you’d need a floor standing version.

I have added my pledge

Thanks @stefanoromano for the contribution!

@RonR > in your case it wss for large parts right? What was the limiting factor then, the height?
I would say that the height can easily be modified (so long that we have somewhere in the space to fit it). The width is a hint more tricky.

Overall I thinj the true valuable components from this press is the fact that the cylinder is fitted with a pressure gauge.

This is the part that wouldn’t fit in, it’s around 50cm and it fouled on the bottom foot. Otherwise I can’t fault the press, I’ve had it up to 10+ tons without problems.

Gotcha, thanks Ron for this, so indeed it was down to the height overall.

@asander1, what shall we do? Is the space open to matching for the last £40 or shall we close the pledge for now?
