In passing @mgb mentioned he’d made a pirate shirt. So I wanted to make one. He shared the pattern, I had an old duvet with holes in knocking about. So obviously I had to have a go.
This is what I started with.
The pattern is designed to use as much of the fabric as possible, so clearly pirates were ahead of the game on zero waste clothes. It’s mostly made of rectangles, which is great. Big fan of simple shapes.
The first tricky bit was the shoulder re-enforcements. They are a cube set inside a rectangle, and are fiddly.
The collar required a huge amount of gathering, which had to be equal and neat and was a total nightmare, but I don’t have any photos of the process because I was too busy sobbing. Anyway, after a lot of cussing. I got the collar on and the sleeves (bit of cheeky gathering for them as well, but after the collar that was okay) and it started to look like a shirt.
The last couple of bits were cuffs (a repeat of the collar) and then a little heart thingy on the front which I sewed, incredibly badly.
Anyway, I have made a shirt from a duvet. The pattern is in the fabric room if anyone else fancies a go at it. I might do another now I know what I’m doing-ish.
